Hi Friends. Its rainy season in Mangalore and as usual the "Mango People" or the "AAM Janta" are having a tough time tackling the rain.
I had written this particular blog a few days back but I am uploading it today.
I am keeping it very short and I have tried to end it suddenly after taking it to a high point. I hope I can make u think about certain things.
I would like to thank Prakash Kamath and Airody Ramanath Pai for the beautiful clicks.
Here we go.......
“Come 2010 Monsoon and Mangalore City will be proud of its Roads and drainage system”. This was the statement my friend made to his cousin from Mumbai during the latter’s visit to Mangalore in 2009 July.
2010 monsoon has just peeped in and said a HI. But already the city is in a mess. Most of the city roads are dug up either for road widening work or for making concrete-roads. The canals that run parallel to the roads are totally filled up with the remains of the demolished buildings and the rain water that is supposed to flow through these canals are “fearlessly” flowing on the roads. As a result of this, the roads are overflowing with rain water. The trade mark potholes are difficult to locate and the vehicles on the roads keep experiencing unpleasant jerks when the vehicles bump in to these potholes.
At quite a few places, the roads have really become wide, but the widened place is used by many for parking either their 4 wheelers or 2 wheelers. The result is the same. The area for vehicle movement is the same as before and the frequent traffic jams are as irritating as before if not more.
Many common people of Mangalore had a feel good factor about the initiatives taken by the DC and other "leaders"(most of them Self-declared) till somewhere around April this year or so. My curious nature often made me ask different people about what they think of the work going on all over. I came across this particular statement quite a few times, “The people those are associated with the City road widening work directly or indirectly have done quite appreciable work”.
Till the monsoon made its presence felt, the city was actually proud of the development work that was taking place. Even though the city feared for its monsoon nightmare, the summer dreams were pretty pleasant.
Today morning, I decided to pay off some of my pending bills and drove across my city in heavy rain and felt not so happy with what I saw. I requested my friend to click some photos as we drove across so that I could share these photographs with the world. All the hard work that was put in for beautifying the city had taken a different turn. I was left shocked saying to myself…. “GOOD WORK OVERSHADOWED”.
Alright.... See you after a while...Till then keep thinking......
Mlore has been widening roads since the time I knew that place!! All Hail Mlore :P
